Presentation themes: fulldome; educational advances in planetariums; future, sustainability and worldviews
Although planetariums have historically and predominantly had an astronomical focus, modern fulldome software tools are increasingly able to display geoscience content just as the need for climate and other Earth systems education becomes increasingly important. I will review the types of visualizations that are now feasible with visualization software (including static and animated surface maps, geospatial data visualizations, and 3D models), and examine the unique advantages of fulldome theaters for these types of content. With the urgent need for helping audiences understand climate and other global environmental change that is happening around them, I will argue for how fulldome theaters can leverage geoscience visualizations to make a positive impact on their audiences and communities.
