Presentation theme: educational advances in planetariums
The OpenSpace project is a NASA-funded collaborative project to develop free, open-source astronomy visualization and planetarium presentation software that anyone can download, install, and explore. Since OpenSpace can be run from a laptop, this software allows the flexibility to take presentations outside the dome and activate new areas in attendees’ facilities. At the California Academy of Sciences, we have leveraged content across multiple venues, including Morrison Planetarium, a stereoscopic theater, a panoramic projection environment, and a presentation space in the Academy’s exhibit area. In this presentation, attendees will find strategies for creating a flexible presentation in OpenSpace adaptable to a planetarium dome and a flat-screen. The presenter will share two examples of presentations, and attendees will walk away with the OpenSpace profiles and talking point scripts to use in their facilities.
