Constellation Shootout
(Registration Necessary)
The Constellation Shootout is a chance to show off your knowledge in the dome and compete against your peers for the glory and honor of knowing the night sky best!
All players will be equipped with laser pointers under the starry sky of the planetarium. Each player gets a turn to point out an object in the sky (star, constellation, asterism, deep sky object) and name it correctly. If you are correct, you will continue to the next round. If you are incorrect, you are out and can join the spectators cheering everyone on.
The name of an object cannot be repeated once it is used (i.e. you may not say Ursa Major twice, however, one player saying Ursa Major and another saying der Großer Bär for example, or one player saying M31 and another saying the Andromeda Galaxy is perfectly acceptable). Every round or two, something about the sky will be changed (changing from static sky to continuous diurnal, changing the hemisphere, etc.) to increase the difficulty and fun!
For an added level of fun, the Constellation Shootout will be played using our historic ZEISS Modell Vb Opto-Mechanical Star Projector, which is original to the Planetarium am Insulaner!
Competition continues to the last person standing, who will be declared the winner! (Please register in advance through the survey you received by email after registration)
Please note that you may use the public transportation (BVG) ticket provided with your delegate registration or otherwise arrange your own transport to the Planetarium am Insulaner.
